Abrasion- An abrasion is the process of wearing down or rubbing away be means of friction. The common names for an abrasion is strawberry, road rash and raspberry. Abrasions are common sport injuries that are usually caused by a fall on a hard surface, abrasions typically refer to an injury that removes these layers of skin. When treating an abrasion the first thing you need to do is clean it, use soap and water and if anything is in the abrasion it should be carefully taken out. Next you should coat it with an antibiotic ointment then bandage it up.

Puncture- is the breaking through skin with an object. Some puncture wounds are just on the surface but others are can very deep depending on the object. Usually punctures do not bleed alot so they usually heal quickly on their own. You should always wash it and cover it with some kind of bandage to prevent infection.

Greenstick fracture- is a fracture in a young soft bone in which the bone bends and partially breaks. A persons bones become harder and more brittle with age. Greenstick fractures occur more in infants and childhood when their bones are soft. There are three basic forms of a greenstick fracture, a transverse, torus and bow. Treatment for a greenstick fracture is to put it in a cast which will straighten it out. Once the cast is removed the patient will attend physical therapy to strengthen the bone.

Spiral fracture- sometimes called a torsion fracture is when the bone has been twisted apart. Usually to get a spiral fracture it will include a sport injury or falling down. It can be difficult to treat a spiral fracture, usually including surgery and to be put in a cast.

Serrated fracture- when the two ends of a broken bone are rubbing against eachother. This usually causes severe damage to the blood vessels and nerves caught between the two broken ends. Surgery and a cast are involved in healing a serrated fracture.

Transverse- Occurs in a straight line along a long bone. You can treat this by six months of splinting

Compound- A fracture in which the bone is sticking through the skin. Also called in open fracture. You can get one of these anyway, sport injury, falling, anything. The healing process of a compound fracture usually will be a long time, surgery will happen and you will be in a cast and afterwards maybe physical therapy.
